SENIORS SECTION
Past it? – not on your life!
We invite all ‘third age’ enthusiasts to join our active Seniors Section who meet and play all year round to enjoy social banter, enhance our wellbeing and retain competitive spirit.
You may be thinking of a return to the game after a working career that got in the way, or looking for a pleasant outdoor activity involving a healthy walk in a nice safe environment – ignore Mark Twain; take the initiative to contact us and/or come and see us at the club.
We guarantee a friendly welcome and all you need to know about our Seniors Section.
Rod Watson, Mike Hewitt, Mike Mogridge, Philip Lee, John Tamberlin, Ralph Crispino,
David Woodcock and Clive Watts have all taken membership: a warm welcome to them.
Welcome back too Colin Brook and Frank Parr, who have returned to Cherwell Edge after a spell at another club.
Apart from the references you see on the Club home page you can contact:

Events
We have a ‘Seniors Day’ every Wednesday, with reserved tee times in the morning, playing a variety of competition forms from straight medal play to team events eg Texas Scramble where everyone on the team has a go at the same shot to achieve the lowest team score. Trophies and Prizes are awarded to the victors.
We also have informal roll-up 9 hole games on Monday and Friday mornings – your name goes into the draw and you are in the mix, guaranteed to meet your fellow members – and with a chance of winning a modest prize for a good score plus the ‘nearest the pin’ prizes on the par threes.
Furthermore, we play Seniors Interclub matches with other clubs in the area on a home and away basis through the summer season. We take a traditional approach to these friendlies with good competition (four ball better-ball matchplay on handicap terms) rounding off with a relaxing ‘Jacket and Tie’ sit-down meal. It’s great to retain social contact with fellow golfers.

Interclub Matches to date have not been an unqualified success: played 7 - halved 1 until last Thursday 28th , when we took on our sister club, Silverstone, at home, achieving
a resounding first victory of the season by 5 – 1. The win puts us in the driving seat to retain the Silveredge Trophy contested annually over the home and away matches.
Most matches were played in glorious weather and also were very enjoyable socially.
Our last Seniors Day competition to date was a 4 man Team Texas Scramble on Wed 29th
- always popular with all team players having a go at each shot.
Superb scores of 67 gross were madeby the leading teams:
Mike, John, Len and Jerry (30 gross back nine!) who pipped Frank, John, Ray and ‘Chick’ for first prize by virtue of 0.3 handicap advantage.
On June 17th we are arranging the Seniors Barbecue Bowl Event as a two-tee start, enabling us to enjoy a hot dish after play and have an Spring season prizes presentation.
We’re also hoping to arrange a mixed event with the Ladies Section before long.
PS If anyone has comments and suggestions, please put them forward promptly through your committee members to ensure consideration.
